Saskia Freeke Artist Talk with Miguel Sicart

Minnesota Street Project Adjacent is pleased to present Virtual Resident, coder, and artist Saskia Freeke in conversation with professor and play scholar Miguel Sicart. The two chat about why we want to play with technology, which forms of play digital tech allows for, and what the role of art is in this space.

Saskia Freeke

An artist, creative coder, interaction designer, visual designer, and educator based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Her work addresses structure, geometry, and playfulness both in the digital and physical realm. Since 2015, she has created a daily digital artwork. She understands how to design with the user in mind and creates work reflecting on that process. Freeke holds a masters in Computational Art from the Goldsmiths.

Miguel Sicart

Sicart is an Associate Professor at the IT University of Copenhagen where he teaches and researches on the theory and design of digital play. He is the author of Play Matters (The MIT Press, 2014), as well as of two monographs on the ethics of computer games. His current research focuses on understanding why we play with software, and exploring why all software is ridiculous, but some of it is useful.
