The World According to Sound presents Outside In | Time

Thursday, December 17, 2020 | 6 pm PST / 9 PM EST

Beginning December 10, The World According to Sound will stream spatialized audio directly to your headphones with countless others around the world. Each program is a completely unique, one-time event never to be heard again.

Attendees are mailed an eye mask and listening instructions for how to tune in. The programs are followed by a live discussion with the producers, musicians, and sound artists who brought the audio to life.

Hear previous a “Outside In” event.

Outside In | Time

Time is strange in the year 2020. The World According to Sound invites you to consider instances where time doesn’t make sense. Composers György Ligeti and John Cage skip rope with journalist Tony Schwartz’s niece. The Big Bang only lasts only a little longer than the first two sentences of a Franklin D. Roosevelt broadcast in 1941. And the slowest song in the world is played as fast as possible.

The World According to Sound

Created by radio sound engineer Chris Hoff and reporter Sam Harnett, The World According to Sound began as a weekly radio show that’s evolved into a series of communal listening events. Hoff and Harnett harness free-flow sound rather than narrative and language, inviting listeners to get lost in the auditory expanse.

The World According to Sound has been featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” NHPR’s “Overheard,” and KQED’s “Earful.”
